Depressed Patients Have a Greater Activity of the Default Mode Network
These sorts of depressive rumination thoughts have been associated with something called the default mode network. This is a connection of regions in the brain, which is involved in sort of conscious awareness and processing of stimuli. Neuroimaging studies have found that this brain network is particularly active is extra active in depressed patients compared to in control patients.
