The Importance of Group Behavior
People cherish their groups. They also have a genuine interest in the avowed aims of the group. Any one who seems to them to be deriding or in any way threatening the group, even by raising legitimate questions about it, is perceived as hostile. Such groups are not sufhic ones, whatever their members may imagine. We should be glad that the tendency exists. People need that instinct or they would never combine at all. Far from being connected with higher consciousness, it badly needs an injection of lower, normal consciousness.
