Is American Conservatism a Post-World War II Phenomenon?
I think Russell Kirk was largely wrong. I've never really loved Kirk's writing style. But his attempt to construct a conservatism, a coherent conservatism, going back to what the Adams is, I just think is just flawed. He liked to say that conservatism is a negation of ideology. And I write about this in my underrated second book,. but I think this is just an incorrect analysis, or an incorrect understanding of what ideology is or should be.
