Richard Sakakita's Biography and the Prison Break
Richard Sakakita served in the U.S. Army's military intelligence Hall of Fame at Fort Wachuca, Arizona. He received a distinguished service medal for his conduct during the war among several other awards. But some of the Filipino gorillas themselves tell a very different story. None of the surviving prisoners from the camp or the rescuers who he says he led into Mutton Loop of Prison recalled his involvement in the prison break in 1944. One prisoner later reported Sakakita wore a Japanese officer's uniform and even slapped a captured gorilla who protested against his own mistreatment.
