The media took what the sheriff had released during a press conference and ran with the theory that the murders were ritual killings committed in the name of witchcraft. At the time, police suspected Donald must have killed his family, but they had no solid evidence at that point. In the meantime, neighbors were terrified that there was a maniac on the loose. It took about two months to compile all the evidence against Donald.
