The Quantitative Change in the Art of Automation

I think that each time there's a wave of automation, you see people predicting that really this leap is the one that's going to take us beyond the world of work. But it turns out that remaining space that looks so small between the cycloptian steam powered machine and a fully automated industrial worker just turns out to be a lot larger than people at first imagine. And I think we're going to basically see that again. Now, that isn't to say that it won't ever happen, it's totally plausible that in the 21st century, some kind of breakthroughs will take place that will make work widely unnecessary. It's just that we're not there yet.
