You can't really get into a conversation while you're standing there with food so there are some it's not I would recommend more that you actually mingle by the food that you mingle with the food. The classic fade in maneuver which is when you kind of edge up to a group and you know you sort of listen to what they're saying listening very hard. When it's appropriate you kind of you just enter in you say something that's relevant to the conversation as if you've been there all along.
