The Cost of Tobacco Use

How much societal health spending is tobacco use responsible for? The WHO, the World Health Organization, has done estimates which put the cost to world society in the trillion dollar mark. For the United States alone, and because the US is a rich country, according to the rather sort of cynical, cold-blooded logic of this kind of calculus, you end up with a figure for 2018 of at least $600 billion a year in income. That's the kind of money that would get us to the energy transition.
