After the channel dash there was this eternal battle going on between the RAF chiefs of the RAF such ails portal. The admiralty wanted more long range aircraft four-engine heavy bombers that could shrink the distances covered across the Atlantic. In March 1943 the Allies lost the 700 000 tons of shipping and it looked like Britain was heading for a disaster because with the supply lines so threatened food rationing had to be tightened all stocks went dwindling.
