The Power of Wood in Cancer Treatment
This is a mass timber structure that was completed in 2020 by Heatherwick in the UK. There are private spaces, meeting rooms inside the tree trunks. These niches for art and places for art installations were created by patients who've come through this center. And so the wood is a metaphor for extension of life. This is an Portland, Oregon, PDX airport terminal. The original structure is from the 1950s. It's tea, joist, concrete really strong, incredibly heavy.
