The Hunter-Gathering Tribes Are Not Productive
James Sussman is the author of a great book called Affluence Without Abundance about hunter-gatherer tribes. He reports that when a hunter brings back a particularly large abundant piece of prey, a big animal, everybody else in the culture around them criticizes them. Why? It makes the group happier when no one has an up on everybody else. That's not human nature. That's our culture.
