The Importance of Sign Language

Sign languages tend to be a bit more iconic than spoken languages. It's not like when these languages are created, it's not like they're created consciously. Because of the medium, you get things that you do not and would never see in a spoken language. In American Sign Language, since it involves a hand shape that can be changed into a number anyway, it's convenient. And so it just naturally happens. That's one thing that language isn't created on purpose, at least natural language, natural language.
