The Importance of Subjectivity in Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis is an attempt to wrestle with the modern world or modernity that comes about along with science. Freud saw himself as doing science but his object of study was subjectivity which sort of puts it outside the realm of science proper because their science has no way based on its methodology to really systematically approach subjectivity you sort of need third-person objectivity for that. I think there are these two things that come into being at the same time subjectivity and modern science and psychoanalysis is trying to think about this form or deforming power of subjectivity and how that can be used in our lives.
