How to Invest in Bonds and Bond Funds

When you buy a bond, you don't have any ownership in the company. Bonds are set up so that at the end of your investment period, you get all of your initial investment back. If the company ends up not doing well and they aren't generating enough cash to pay back their debts, then there is no guarantee that they could pay you back. And history has shown most active managers cannot consistently outperform the market.
