The Battle of the Barlev Line
The sheer scale of a bombardment like this is almost impossible to really fully get your mind around. With that rate of fire, the ears of the israe soldiers would not have been able to perceive the sound of individual explosions. The egyptians want to shock the israelis on the barlev line into catatonia if they can. They want to pull their nerves apart like brisket to soften them up for what's going to happen next. Eventually, after about two hours, the shelling stops.
