The Arguments for Local Control
Both Democratic and Republican secretaries of state, the chief election officers, have called for the agency to be disbanded. They say it's too powerful because it's a turf war thing. One argument is accountability; if you don't like how the local registrar voters is running things, you can go complain to your county board as opposed to trying to complain to some federal agency far away.
