CHAPTER

The Importance of Access to Archive in China

This book is really made up of sort of fragmentary material. I was quite fortunate to have got to spend a good chunk of time in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs archive before I started my doctorate. And that probably is still the core material that kind of everything else is built on. But also I ended up exploring municipal archives,. material and municipal archives in Beijing and Shanghai in particular, but also scientists, personal papers... It's basically almost anything I could get my hands on from academic journals, newsletters, magazines, newspapers in China and abroad.
