In 19 84, jack received an award for his work a stage production titled terminal prison. He was permitted day release to attend the opening night performance and arrived to a throng of photographers clamoring to take his picture. In 19 85, austria's liter y community began to petition for jack's early release. On may 23, 19 90, 39 year old jack vega left prison as a free man having served his minimum term of 15 years. His release was due in part to the campaigning of psychiatrist doctor ernest bornaman, who never met jack, but had read his autobiography.
