I've Never Been Scared of Those Heavy Steps

My front door was left wide open and in the living room a side table had been knocked over. I've never ever been scared of those creaking sounds coming from the stairs, but it was different then. At the time, it felt as if though I'd never heard a scarier sound. My home wasn't ransacked but it did look as though someone booked it out of there relatively quickly. We have quite obvious security cameras around the property with visible signage although we still live here with my partner and two dogs. This was easily the most terrifying experience in my life's so far.
