Luca lesi explains why grass became such a famous perfume hub. Grass was used for the cultivation of leather, which didn't necessarily smell so good. The practice got to italy, or to italian states, partly because venice was an important trading city. And in order to supply this vogue for fancy leather goods, grass came into its own.
