"It's not a very scientific book, doesn't list any real studies. It's more anecdotal," he says about the theory of barefoot running. "If you train for ultra marathons with normal shoes and then suddenly try to do one with barefoot shoes, probably another good idea because your feet are just not ready for that." He adds: "You wouldn't jump into an ultra half thing like that. You'd be ruined after 5k for sure"
