The Prosperity Gospel
We prefer democracy, where every man is king and every woman is queen. So this idea of jesus as the king with a capital kan - that's what the word messiah or christ means, is king. It's so against the flow of our culture because the heart of kingship is the idea of authority. And we're anti authoritarian. To come under authority is to surrender your autonomy and control to somebody else. We go to war against that in the west. I've been gutted, on a serious note, to watch the explosion of the prosperity gospel,. really, in my lifetime.
