Parsifal, a Romantic Oper With Religious Overtones
Parsifal is an opera with quasi religious overtones, even if not necessarily connected to christ's passion. Wagner and his heirs forbade the opera to be staged anywhere else other than the byroit festsbill house until 19 o three. The climactic scene of parsifal takes place in a grayl hall that was elaborately designed and depicted on the stage patterned on the cathedral of sienna. So it has these great overtones of sanctity and of religious drama. This can be seen as ironic, because wagner himself was sceptical of christianity.
