The Politics of Bible Translation
There are politics involved in Bible translation, he says. Publisher can't afford for a translation to fail and cause an uprising among the reading public; that makes there be some reticence toward changing something that has a long traditional impact. So we've got the verse in Proverbs 1130, which is typically translated in places like the King James Version, etc. That phrase translated wins souls is a combination of a verb and a noun that occurs another dozen times or so in Scripture - it consistently means one thing, to take someone's life.
