The Role of T-Cells in Skin Early in Life

A former postdoc in my lab, Tiffany Sharschmidt, who's now a junior faculty member at UCSF, made this observation that T-rags accumulate in skin early in life. And so we hypothesized that possibly these T- rags were playing a role in early skin development and making sure that there wasn't tons of inflammation while hair follicles were still being generated. These bands of fibroblasts started to grow out deeper in the skin through sort of the subcutaneous fat,. Almost looking like a fibrosis kind of picture that actually resolved.
