The Importance of Skepticism in Pharmaceutical Research

I did not know that pharmaceutical companies basically just don't pay attention to academic studies. That makes total sense to me. You could be a tenured Marxist economist at a university and all of your ideas have been discredited. If the topic is sexy like baldness or a minimum wage, then I'm twice as skeptical. People have this idealized idea of scientists being dispassionate, sincere seekers of truth who would never lie. They're the same people. On average, maybe the average academic is a little more honest than the average CEO.
