The Importance of Toughness
Toughness is deciding that something is important and figuring out a way to do it, regardless of how difficult or easy it is. The reason crumb is willing to do this is because he has a purpose. Vigor is only in the purpose of some other goal. All these physical behaviors which culturally and for kind of gendered reasons are associated with weakness are actually displays of folks being tough.
