The Hoplight Race
The Greek army charged from the valley in a full sprint, covering the mile or so that divided their two camps at breakneck speed. This was highly unorthodox for hoplite phalanxes to break ranks and charge like this,. The Persians were completely taken by surprise and scrambled to get into formation as quickly as possible. But right before disaster occurred, the Greek generals' themisticallys and aristides had managed to encourage the hoplights to counterattack and stop the Persian advance.
