The Battle of Neural Activation
There's some kind of feedback loop that's interesting here in this shunting from the xyphoid to either more amygdala action or more frontal action. The overall state of the animal will probably dictate the extent to which the balance of activity shifted towards frontal cortex suppressing amygdala. It could bring up an anecdote where if you've ever been in a panic situation, a very high stress situation and you're not trained to go into an automatic motor pattern. This is why people who can't even dial 911 under emergency conditions or they get tangled up in seaweed cannot reach them because it's too late.
