I think Jack was reacting to a desire to make sure that he hit earnings every quarter. He may have done it to a fault. But that's what his goal was, like it or not, of every CEO in every company should be to maximize value for shareholders and even creditors. And so, I think he saw that as his mission, as opposed to the man who broke capitalism,. "He's the man who reinforced it and celebrated it, maybe to a fault," says David Frum.
