Do the Letters of Marie Antoinette Reveal Much?
Marie Antoinette at this stage is essentially only writing to her mother. She's been married to a teenager who isn't interested in her so the marriage won't be consummated for a number of years. The letters reveal things in what they say but also in what they don't say. It's a court for instance where you're on show all the time or nearly. When Marie Antoinette arrives in Versailles all eyes are on her and they're on her even more so because there is no Queen of France at that stage since Louis XV is a widower.
