The Difference Between Speech and Action

Mark O'Mara: In the essay, Wes Anderson says that non linguistic activity does not of its own accord make itself known as the action that it is planned to be. He then argues that speech acts by contrast do satisfy this condition. So he's trying to make the point that your subjective experience of the world as objects when you're just perceiving and there's actions happening,. There's no sense in which actions themselves give you any sense of their telos, as Allen said. But we can do a little bit of interpretation of the intention of actions just through general context - so I might have enough context to know she's hurrying down the street.
