Aren't Animal Rights an Anthromorphic Fallacy?

Isn't the concept of animal rights an anthropomorphic fallacy? Aren't rights particular to humanity? I mean, rights are part of a moral framework involving the individual whose rights we are assuming exist. Now animals don't have responsibilities and duties, so surely they can't have rights. They obviously can't have duties, most of them at least.
