Castles in England
castles are there for colonizing and subduing the english. In the tudor era, we su to see castles perform a different function again. That becomes its more important functioni think probably associate t with the tudors more than william the conqueror. There are very few castles which don't just become private, stately homes, or just ruins after the seventeenth century. Dover castle on the south coast still had a military function in the second world war. It's so unusual that it retains a serious purpose for a thousand years almost.
