In 1927, a Supreme Court ruling gave the Treasury Department the authority to demand income taxes from bootleggers. With this new ruling, assistant attorney general Mabel Walker Rilla Brand built a scheme to go after the mob for tax evasions. Frank Wilson spent months looking through any and every financial record and paper trail of evidence he could find. Capone was arrested on June 5, 1931 for owing over $200,000 in taxes from his gambling enterprises.
