Hendrickson's Vision of a Self-Sufficiency Farming System

During 1980 he quickly left his stable work working with poorer people. He occupied himself instead with a wide variety of startups aimed at the development of an alcohol cooperative and the construction of alcohol plants. One particular project was on a site in South Dakota called Igloo. Hendrickson conjured an ecological vision of a totally self-sufficient farming system. The waste from grazing cattle would produce methane. Steam generated energy would be used to make alcohol. Aquaculture, fish farming, tree farming, biomass crops including like amaranth and fodder beets all had place on the farm.
