The Battle of Constantinople
After a little over a week of bombardment, Mechmed tried the first assault at the siege. The attack failed and left behind hundreds of them. More breaches opened as huge sections of wall collapsed. When they could, the defenders filled the gaps with earth and wood replacements that could soak up cannon fire. Another naval battle, this time directly under the city walls, was an Ottoman victory.
