The Effect of Interest Rates on the Economy
We had ultra low artificially low interest rates in the economy for a long time. We went through an extended period just as rates were on their path towards more normal than we had COVID. What it means is that if I'm a bank and I have my reserves and I had done what I thought was good cash management which is put the money that I haven't reserved in longer-term financial instruments suddenly as the Federal Reserve started the process of fighting inflation, they're going to push them up. Same thing fighting inflation by pushing interest rates upWhat happens is when the interest rates are pushed up the value of any kind of holdings that are longer term drop and value.
