The Lynching of Roy Belton
In august 19 20, a taxi driver named homer nida was hijacked by a group of three people. In the hospital, he identified one of his attackers as a young man named roy belton. Rumors quickly circulated that belton was going to get out of punishment by pleading insanity. So an angry mob formed one night in front of the jail and court house of tulsa. They were able to break into the jail, seize roy belton, take him, drive him to a patch of woods outside of the city, and they lynched him.
