Foster's Theology of Dante and Aquinas
In terms of Dante's theology, Foster argues that Dante not only had a great admiration for St. Thomas as a holy man in saint, albeit not yet officially colonized by the church. For Foster then, Dante's universe was neither Thomas, nor anti-Thomas, and was instead a rather uneasy synthesis of neo-Platonist and Aristotelian elements. But was Foster right to turn his back on the Tomistante at all? Was Foster right to give even more ground he did to the likes of Etienne Jusum?
