The Importance of Saying Goodbye
The Church of England offers baptism to living children and funeral services for those who die in infancy, but has no liturgy for families mourning miscarried babies. These services were first organised in 2012 by Zoe and Andy Clark Coates after their own experiences of recurrent miscarriage. There is now an international programme of services all similar in format. Neopagan rituals differ from the miscarriage memorialisation rituals held in Buddhist temples and Anglican cathedrals as mourners write their own rituals.
