The Moore's Account

Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca was one of the four men who made it back to Mexico City in 1536. He is considered by some to be the first black man to explore the United States. The other two travelers were Alonso del Castillo and Esta Venico, a Moorish slave. In 2015, author Leila Lalami wrote a novel titled The Moore's Account,. A fictionalized version of the trek of CabezaDeVaca and his three companions told from the viewpoint of EstaVenico.
