A lot of people initially put off mass immersion approaches because they just literally don't understand anything. Duolingo has really converted quite a lot of people to engaging with language on a day to day basis. We have this concept of tolerating ambiguity. So you might as well get used to it from day one. Even if you don't understand what the sentence says, you should be able to identify things that you do know within the sentence.
