The stress response is only meant to last for between 30 to 60 seconds. Today though, what's happening is we get our prefrontal cortex involved in this and a number of other systems. This is where anticipatory and consequential thinking takes place. We anticipate what certain behaviors and actions are going to happen. So when you have this ongoing stress response, the CEO of your company doesn't excel now because it brings on chronic inflammation that stops us from being able to function optimally.
