Presidential candidate Eugene the devs claimed and did run for election from jail and asserted that if elected he would pardon himself. Alexander Hamilton expressed confidence that presidents who were impeached would still be liable to prosecution punishment. If speaker Pelosi had brought those charges immediately after January 6 in the in the days of the Senate, I think it would have mattered. But too much time passed too many things went past because the president was out of office.
