Introduction

This is the army camp of alexander the third of macedon. We see people from all around the ancient world, fighting, arguing, drinking and laughing. There are sogdians, bactrians, parthians, iranians, greeks, mesopotamians, laventians, ionians, anatolians and macedonians. But as we walk we also pass more and more indians who are evidently not mercenaries or warriors. The streets of the camp babble with tongues that we have never heard before. Women and children chained, bruised, beaten. They stare at us with hungry, helpless eyes.
