Conscripted Military Service Is Not the Only Reason Why It's So Important

For countries that want large armies, conscripting soldiers is often the only affordable way to do it. If you had to pay a million people full wages in all volunteer force, you wouldn't be able to afford it at all. And so what happened in ukraine has driven all this push. I think russia's invasion of ukraine was a shock to the system. This was the first change in europe's borders by force since world war two. So that did make a lot of countries rethink the idea of hard power,. military power and its ability to completely change the fate of societies.
