How Much Do Blue Whales Weigh?
A hundred years ago, people were killing whales in very large numbers to get fuel and for other products. They would chop up the dead whales into parts that could be weighed. Now we can do this with remote sensing using drones or cameras on boats. The weight of a blue whale today is about 250,000 pounds (quarter of a million pounds) It's important because we can track individual whales through seasons so we know how they change in weight.
