The Volatility of the Equal Weighted S&P 500
The equal weighted version of the broad market dramatically changes the sector weights in the index, right? So information technology for the S&P as a whole is almost 28% versus 15% in the equal weighted index. A boring sector like industrials makes up only about 8% of the S-P 500, but just under 14% for the Equal Weighted Index. It kind of tends to flatten out the distribution between sectors, which is a good thing probably.
