Mendelssohn's Second Symphony
Mendelssohn painted many water colors of the italian coast and other places as well. He reported that during his time in naples, he witnessed a religious procession. This procession finds its way into the symphony during the second movement. One truly interesting thing to do is to compare this religious procession with one that schumann portrays in his third symphony, the rhenish.
